James Hamilton, our “first” Australian  i.e. the first member of either of our families to be born in Australia. James was born at Seaham (near Raymond Terrace) in NSW on 29th April 1848 to James and Margaret Hamilton (nee Lewis) who had migrated to Australia on the “Herald” which departed from Greenock on 10 Oct 1843 and arrived in Sydney on the 10th January 1844.
